I was just thinking if you are specific that all pList1 are odds and all pList2 are even, and if I understand you write you could do: x=pBoard[pCard1] y=pBoard[pCard2] if ((ABS(x-y)=1) AND NOT((x MOD 2)+(xy)) MOD 2) then .. end if The ABS(x-y)=1 checks if they are one away from each other
