Nvidia works for me. I have a GeForce 9400GT driving two 1920x1080 displays, one of them is a 47" Sharp Aquos HDTV. The sound doesn't work on the Aquos, but I use the computers sound system, so it isn't a problem. I didn't have any issues at all setting it up, basically it's the same two monitor

I've also had good success with Nvidia in Linux. I don't have a recommendation regarding which Nvidia card but I've not had one that didn't work. I've also used the VDPAU acceleration. It also works fine with bluray playback smoothly. I found this page useful: https://help.ubuntu.com/commun

I've a new Asus UL30 that is quite nicely running Ubuntu 9.10. (For info, Debian testing AMD64 crashed the wired ethernet -- rebooting in the Win7 even showed no adapter! Had to power down and restart. If anyone wants to try to sort this out to submit a bug report, contact me off list.) Howe
