That is fine if you have the opportunity to issue the Alien command. In
this case what was proposed was a system that issued the rpm command for
you and expected that to result in the installation.

We have a LINUX running in LPAR mode with an OSA--E as the only network
interface.
We looking into bringing zVM to run it in the LPAR and, then, run
multiple LINUX images underneath it.
I have a couple of question, being new to VM and OSA-E;

Hi everyone!
I'm running Conectiva Linux/S390 with patches and oco modules from
november 23rd, under an IBM Multiprise 3000 with some ESCON cards using
addresses 0x80-5. One of them, using addresses 0x82 and 0x83 and adaptor
number 2, are dedicated to a Linux machine running under VM.
At first,

Can any of you good people answer a question? How is Linux doing his/its

Mike,
There wasn't a lot of difference, but more than just a few files. I pointed
my web browser at Red Hat's FTP server, did a cut and paste of the RPMS
directory, and stuck that in a file. Then, I wrote a small Rexx exec to
take that and compare it to an ls -loutput command run on my

Yes and no. Yes, Linux networking on S/390 is the same as
on Intel x86

The greased turkey (there really was one) was 2.4.15. It was a real
dud, good for destroying filesystems.
Fortunately for me, I wasn't one caught;-)

And, if yes, how? I can't seem to find an example of
sharing a OSA-E
in the books.
I have seen the warnings about the need for both OS to specify
portname. But,

Will rhsetup let me do this??

I must have misunderstood something that was being said in the past about
IBM support of Linux/390. If someone like Craig is getting segfaults in the
QETH OCO driver for Linux/390, I thought he could open up a problem record
with the IBM support center to get it looked at. Does he have to buy

I'm not sure what you see as complicated on sharing the OSA-E devices,
other than doing the IOCP (and with Linux running in an LPAR they already
have that done to share with MVS). When you use a
