Well, this is what I finally tried:
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # ls
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # rmmod dasd
rmmod: module dasd is not loaded
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # insmod dasd dasd=4c0
Using /lib/modules/2.2.16/block/dasd.o
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # dasdfmt -n 4c0 -b 4096

Hello from Gregg C Levine normally with Jedi Knight Computers
Which SuSE field representative was this Mike? I was wandering around
the IBM booth, on Wednesday, nearly all that day, I wasn't approached by
any of them, although Jim Elliot did concede that someone was there,
from that company. Also

One would assume you uuencode the files
I did reread the press release. It says "After the 60-days trial period you
might decide to purchase the full product, or you return the software back to
SuSE".
Now, since you downloaded it, to return the software, are you suppose to upload
it?

Tom,
He may or may not be working too much, but he's right. The 60-day trial
period software can only be obtained as a no-charge set of CDs, not as a
download. The free beta download is not considered "trial period software"
and is not time-limited, and hence doesn't have to be returned. Sorry

Very true, but it's a bit of a chicken-and-egg situation - you would
only start serious evaluation of a di

That obviously depends on distance and bandwidth, and there
are a lot of mirrors over the world. If you do multiple installs
it might be nice to have your own copy on an FTP or NFS server

If you're formatting a full volume 3390, it can take a while. You should
have gotten a message indicating you're going to wipe out all the data on
the volume, etc., etc., and requiring a response to continue. If you didn't
get that, something else has gone wrong. Try telneting in to a different

I *know* it exists. I just want it installed by default...8-)
Just fired up my PDP-10 emulator, and looked. VTECO (at least on my system,
a clone of one of the Stanford res packs) is a TECO macro.

OK, you're right.
They kind of ran the press release together. They actually announced 3
packages.
1. The beta, available from the download site.
2. The Trial version, free for 60 days.
3. The evaulation version, $500 for 6 months with full support.
While they were at it, they could have in

Hello from Gregg C Levine writing for myself
One would need to assume certain things about that press release. And I
for one think it was miss-aimed. That the recipients on this list know
what it means, is obvious. But there is still something wrong with it,
and it is enough to give Hamlet a fit.
here is the latest try:
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # rmmod dasd -a
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # insmod dasd dasd=4c0-4c4
Using /lib/modules/2.2.16/block/dasd.o
insmod: a module named dasd already exists
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # rmmod dasd
SuSE Instsys linuxlpar:/root # insmod dasd dasd=4

What model DASD is it? There is a fix required to stop hangs when formatting
