Peter,
I don't know if the RPM does a "depmod -a" command or not (but it should
have). You might try that and see if things improve. If not, try this:

and see what comes out. I would be really surprised if it wasn't there.

Hi again,
well, luckily a reinstall doesn't take long, because doing it doesn't seem
to remove this particular symptom.
Both cpint and km_cpint are installed now, but /sbin/cpint_load still gives

I think the right thing to do is simply create the cpint.o module with m

thanks Mark - I installed that package (I was expecting it to already have

When I say "installed that package" I simply mean via Yast. Perhaps that is
the wrong method?

Never worked like that
This is what came with the SuSE S/390 distro and I'm still too much of a
newbie to have upgraded anything.

It's a pity this has never been implemented!!
Cool! Having dynamic device recognition for all devices would be very nice.

Mark,
the chandev layer is only for networking devices - it handles many things
including registering the
device with the networking layer. It does *not* drive dynamic device
recognition, but acts rather as
an in-between for the networking channel devices.

Be careful of Samba 2.2.4. That's the version that causes Linux kernel
crashes unless you install the patches to prevent it on either the kernel or
Samba. I would recommend going to 2.2.3a, or all the way to 2.2.5.

Yes, they have binaries for zSeries, but only for OS/390 and z/OS, just as

Yow, that's *ancient*. Definitely time to upgrade to at least Samba 2.2.4.
"use client driver" is not implemented in 2.0.7.

First question: what are the Intel servers doing? Comparisons like this
don't mean much without some sort of baseline, and you're unlikely to get
anything useful by trying to swap hardware w/o a good idea of the initial
