"man zipl.conf" has examples. It will look like this:
parameters="root=/dev/dasda1 dasd=unit1,unit2-unit3,unit4"
Use your existing zipl.conf for a guide.

Here is the appropriate line from my zipl.conf:
parameters = "root=/dev/dasda1 dasd=0.0.201,0.0.200,0.0.202-0.0.209
selinux=0 TERM=dumb elevator=cfq"

Is there a way to specify the dasd devices you want the guest to know about
at IPL like there was in SLES8?

We may have the opprtunity to start running some Weblogic servers under SLES8

I looked at BEA's website and it looked like version 9.0 is not yet certified
for the mainframe although it is certified for SLES9 on intel.
Does anyone know if 9.0 certification is in the works?

Overhead? I have no idea. I suspect it will be fairly small.

Actually, the limit of 8 is highly Bogus.
I currently have 30 ISO images loopback mounted on my installation server, and
have the potential of 50. If I run out, I'll make more. No big deal.

Where/how does one pass this parameter, and what is the overhead in
creating that many loopback devices?

I don't think the 6 GA CDs are all binaries. I think at least a couple
of them are all source RPMs. So, that would still allow this to work.

Discontiguous Shared Segments (DCSS) are a VM construct that allow a
segment of code to be mapped into the address space of multiple virtual
machines at the same time
Hello,
I see a strange behaviour on my failover Vswitch controller. It does not ever
seem to lose any real frames assigned to it and ends up with a larger working
set than the active Vswitch controller. See cutout of PTK:

Hi K.M.
NSS and DCSS are z/VM features to allow memory shared (read-only)
between Linux virtual machine. You can have the kernel in NSS and
libraries and userspace b

True.
I believe the bigger issue is that NFS usually does not cross mount
points, so an install/patch tree with 9 mount points could not be served
up by most NFS servers (yes, it could be served up by FTP servers

If the loopback driver is built into the kernel, then pass the kernel
parameter max_loop=nn to increase the number of loopback devices. If the
driver is a module, then pass that parameter to the module. I have a PC
with various SUSE and Red Hat iso images mounted using 52 loop devices.

My z/Linux(SLES9 64bit) is running under VM v5.2.
I want to running on high performance as possible as.
What is DCSS and NSS?
I don't know DCSS and NSS at all.
Please teach me their foundations.
Thanks,

A number of recent VM APARs relate to VSWITCH issues. Make sure you are fairly
current. Our SLES8 worked fine with VSWITCHes at kernel 2.4.19. Most are now at
2.4.21.

SLES8 works fine with VSWITCH also without any SP instelled on.
