Having installed a fair number of copies of Linux at customer sites, I
can assure you the FTP server CAN be on a window server, BUT each time I
have installed from a window server I have had a problem with case that
I do not have when installing from a *nix server.
So I consistently tell my

A week has gone by, I fubared the original install trying to fix it; so
I spent a couple of days creating a new install. I have the system
installed and almost up to SLES9x SP3. SPident complains about two
XFree86-Mesa packages not being up to the SP2 level, but I can't find
the update RPMs on the

This is occurring on fully patched SLES9x 2.6.5-7.286-s390x. It is running
as a z/VM Guest on z/VM 5.1 plus selected maintenance.

I'm not sure how this got tacked onto a thread about kernel allocation errors,
but you've got me
It appears that my most severe problem is that the CD I have has no
kernel image.
I really appreciate all of the response, they have been a great help.
I'm sure I will be back with more questions later.
Thanks

I don't know if this is your problem or not, but the consultant who
helped us install z/VM and SUSE Linux told us that the installation FTP
server COULD NOT BE ON A WINDOWS SERVER. It had something to do with
Windows handling the long file names incorrectly. He had Linux running
on his laptop, whic

I am seeing the following in my message log many times for my Hipersocket.
Does anyone know what it means and how I can eliminate it?
Jul 5 13:34:45 linuxp01 kernel: Normal: empty
Jul 5 13:34:45 linuxp01 kernel: HighMem: empty
Jul 5 13:34:45 linuxp01 kernel: Swap cache: add 1670971, delete 1648
Thanks Christian...
I'll try your suggestion..
# modprobe vmcp
# sleep 1
# vmcp your command
I really appreciate your help.

Hi David...
Thanks for replying. At the very least we'd like to put /var, /opt/local,
and /usr/local in the lvm. I may not be saying this correctly, so bear
with me. What we actually did was put all the r/w directories off of
/guestvol which is the mount point for the lvm. When we boot the sys
