Dear all,
I would need to access the fixes repository for SLES 11 SP2 High
Availability Extension on IBM zSeries.
Looking to the available repositories with SMT does not show the s390x
version.
Therefore I would like to know how the SLES HA Extension is licensed for
SLES 11 SP2 on IBM zSeries?
We just went through this ourselves. You will need to open an SR with
Novell and ask them to get you licensed for HAE. It took about a month
between the time we opened the SR and when we could download the
updates. (They actually asked us to show them why we though we were
entitled...we
We went through that too last fall and again later when our customer number was
changed.
You have to get your account team to update your allowed products. They
apparently don't give you s390x HAE by default.
Make sure you ask for s390x too.
Once that is done, SMT automatically sees it.

Try using s3270 instead of x3270. s3270 is intended for commandline work
(although it should work with x3270 as well, but...)

Dear Marcy, Dear Leland,
Thank you very much for your advice. I will open a SR and see what will
happen.

Many ISV's only add z support based on customer demand.
- Some do not care if customer interest exist and have no interest in
supporting z.
- Some code might not recompile cleanly making the choice without
investment easy.
- Most however are more then willing to work with our ISV enablement
I don't doubt that since z is a different architecture (in their minds).
There will be some differences between the Linux's but again, it mostly
architecture based. Someone can probably go into the finer details of
the differences.

We have discovered that some vendors expect x86 modules to be present. It may
be Linux code but they are relying on x86 modules to be there.

Are you talking about an IBM product? If not, we have our own team that works
with ISVs to get them to support SLES, on whatever architecture the customer
needs. That doesn't

There are hardware architecture differences (e.g., the way numbers are
stored, etc.) between Intel and System z.
Of course, applications can be written to handle these differences, but they
would need to tested in both types of environments.
Since they probably don't have free access to System z,

Yeah. After all, isn't the whole world Intel-based now that those pesky
mainframes are gone?
NOT.
Mostly it's an issue with testing and QA. Since
