That's my understanding of the reason for the /dev/root being missing; there's
no root= in the kernel parms.
Again, I have the ISO loop-mounted so I can IPL from it in Hercules, and I can
find the install.img file, and the generic.ins file points to the install.img
file andI don't know
A root= is needed for an install over the network. It needs to get hold of
install.img from somewhere. Here's my console when I boot from the virtual
reader and use and internal server to hold the 7.4.1708 image:
RDR FILE 0732 SENT FROM CLCTLR PUN WAS 0674 RECS 054K CPY 001 B NOHOLD NOKEEP
There are two generic*.prm files in the iso in the images directory they have
ro ramdisk_size=4 cio_ignore=all,!condef rd.cmdline=ask (genericdvd)
ro ramdisk_size=4 cio_ignore=all,!condef (generic)
I started using the support files to IPL in Hercules, and modified the
generic.prm there
Greetings List Lurkers,
Agreed!

Here's a generic.prm I use to get things going:
root=live:http://download.sinenomine.net/clefos/7/images/install.img
ramdisk_size=131072 cio_ignore=all,!0.0.0009
There is also the genericdvd.prm on the ISO image.

I am installing ClefOS 7.4 to run under Hercules, to make sure what I have to
do before attempting to install it (ClefOS) into an LPAR.
Hercules is running under Centos 6.something on my laptop.
I have the 74base.iso loop-mounted, so it should be loading everything via http
within Hercules.

Master Robert,
This should have been the first thing anyone should have turned to.

the last section covers ripping open the Linux initrd and adding more tools
to it to do bare metal recovery from the ramdisk - the approach is still
valid, but some of the tools used have
