We are running Redhat EL4 update 4 under z/VM 5.2 and I am noticing that
both s390 and s390x systems sometimes 'go to sleep' or disconnect until I do
#CP on console and then B. Then they are ok for a while. A 'while' is from 5
secs to many hours and anything in between.

Chaps,
I have a file on Redhat EL 4 that is AWSTAPE of a VSE library backup. I want

Any suggestions/help etc would be greatly appreciated

any documentation as to what I do next so I can actually use the tape drive.

They is/are Novell. IBM have told me that the official Novell view is that
sle8 will not run on z9 BC even under z/VM 5. I have not seen this for
myself yet.

If you are a secure system, you can use REXEC as we do.

Must have missed this. We run Redhat and Suse on zseries. Well at least we
try.

I think this may be a dumb question but I have to ask. If I have Logical
volume of , say 6Gb on a Redhat V3 system, can I attach, mount it on a SUSE
system to use. This 6Gb disk is created using LVM as it spans 2 physical
3390-3 disks.
mean at the same time as it's mounted on the original
system. But yes, you can mount an LVM on another system, if run through the
appropriate commands to let the other system know about it.

Hi James,
The REXECD server in VM if of no use to me. Its for receiving REXEC calls

I know that I should not use REXEC etc but it's the only way I know to run a
shell in Linux that needs parameters passed to it from our VM system.
My question is REXEC worked fine till we move Linux to the DMZ of our
filewall.
It sits for 5 minutes before timing out with unable to open port 512
You need to use WAKEUP . Its not very pretty but it works well.
