VI with no control or escape key

I am using PComm to Z/VM to CentOS LINUX using the VI editor. How do you use VI without a control key or an escape key? I am starting to remember UNIX in the early 90s. I am so stuck in input mode! I am trying to setup my TCPIP sysconfig network-script. I set it up wrong during setup. Thanks

I am installing Marist/LINUX on an IBM Z800 in a Z/VM guest. I am unable to ftp the root file system into the LINUX(page 116 of the Linux for S/390 install/config). I am unable to ping from my PC to the LINUX. I am able to ping from the tcpmaint ID to the LINUX but it seems I can not do
