I have prepared this kind of DVD a few times. It consist of kernel, big
ramdisk which has all tools needed and a few scripts which:
1. Prepoare DASD (dasdfmt, fdasd, and mke2fs)
2. Move ramdisk to dasd
3. Make zipl active on target dasd
4. As option - prepare basic configuration in etc
Could you send more informations ? I mean CPU type (model, ifl or not),
memory size for virtual machine, heap size for java, average workload on
Linux, type of application (standalone, Websphere). I support customers
with WebSphere and DB2 on Linux for zSeries - respons time is not bad,

Yesterday I had conected Symmetrix 3700 via FCP and Full-Fabric Switch
to z890 with z/VM 5.1. FCP LUN was declared as EDEVICE (emulated
device) in z/VM and succesfully formatted as 9336 FBA (60 GB) via CPFMTXA.

Yes - but this is the same like mounting FCP-SCSI disk directly in
z/Linux in one side and other OpSys via another FCP connection. If
you mount this only once as read-write you have possibility to share
snapshot when other systems mounts (especially linux). This is why I
asked guys in IBM
IFL means different type of CPU (Coupling Facility processor selected in
Activation Profile for partition on HMC or SE ) not the special name of
partition.
