Why is it important to keep the API simple, shouldn't it be functional in first place and make the API usage simply? Anyway (IMHO), there should really be an API which combines audio and MIDI playback, recording and timing of events and makes it possible to keep MIDI in sync with audio (ALSA

Is it possible to lock the ALSA sequencer to audio clock? Most controllers like Envy24 have a register called Playback DMA Current/Base Count Register (= where the 'play position' inside the DMA buffer is currently). Can ALSA sequencer also send MIDI clock based on this counter to MIDI out?

So we need something which handles the timing like the DirectMusic(tm) in the Linux kernel. How about the ALSA project, could they put this stuff there? I mean even DirectMusic can synchronize it's master clock to audio clock, it surely must be possible also in Linux? Funny someone mentioned

Isn't Timidity able to load SF2 banks? Maybe that's a solution for you? If the soundfonts could be loaded/unloaded dynamically like in Windows API you could just load new soundfont bank when it's needed and unload when it's no more / not yet needed to save memory. If you don't like SF2 format

They are not based on Envy24 (ICE1712) chipset, they use ASIC from some other company who's name I can't remember (I guess it's desgined by Egosys anyway). Audiotrak Maya is practically the same card that comes with the Steinberg Project Pack. Generally it's quite easy to find the manufacturer

Please ask them about Audiotrak Prodigy 192 card, that card looks great, actually it looks like egosys Waveterminal 192L card. Wonder how much it will cost, and also what they will tell you about it (I think it needs Linux drivers, but where to get the documentation?). -Mikko -Original

Hi, Has anyone tried and tested the new lock-break patches with the PE patches. The README tells these lock-break patches are based to Andrew Morton's low-latency patches, they look like more severe attempt to clean the patches to be included into official kernel tree, but how well they
