Update on the Debian Unstable/2.6.8/udev war:
1. DiskOnKey mounts properly on mount point /media/usb0 once I manually
fixed /etc/fstab to use /dev/sda1 instead of /dev/sda.
2. CD-ROM mounts properly on mount point /media/cdrom0 once I manually
mkdir /media/cdrom0, which was missing (even though the
I am experiencing bad out-of-the-box experience with udev under Debian

Non-intuitive mount handling for flash memory devices, IrDA not properly
configured, need special tricks to access CD-ROM, etc.
