Once upon a time, I had an E-mail mbox converted by mistake into emacs's
RMAIL format.
I was stuck for a long time, for want of a method to convert it back
into mbox format, and the usual sources of information have not been
helpful.

Do you know how to display attachments, of messages in RMAIL, in their
full glory from emacs/xemacs?
Once I converted back into mbox format, I could import it into Evolution
and see the attachments.

Hell knows how you display attachments in Emacs. I used Gnus years ago,
but can't recall whether it used RMail format or something more advanced...

As far as I remember, only emacs rmail used the rmail format. GNUS
could use th
Gnus (which I use now) can read BABYL as well as other formats and its
as good as handling attachment as other mail readers.
