I have been configuring a linux box to function as a router, ran into some
problems, and think that I traced the problem to a faulty routing table. So
I brought down all my interfaces and routing table ( except lo ) and
attempted to add them manually.

Linux box to itself ( using the loopback interface ), it works fine. My
/etc/hosts , /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/networks seem to be ok.
I don't have 'named' running, but it looks like I might need to ( though I
had wanted to avoid it ).
