2950's were sold with 8x2.5" or 6x3.5" hdd bays IIRC.
I'm not sure if it reports connectors that aren't in use.

This isn't going to fit in any Dell 1U server that I know of - I had
trouble getting a simple dual-port FC card in a 1950 once...
I suspect you'd need to be looking at something closer to the 4U servers
Dell sells, where they have
spares.

Irritatingly, a reboot of the server has made the foreign state "go
away". What's annoying is even removing/reinserting the drive didn't
clear this, only a reboot did.

[1] I've only used it on CentOS/RHEL. To download it, view the driver
list for your server and expand the "Systems Management" tab. You're
looking for the "Dell Server Updates" ISO, which should have "SUU" in
the filename.
