this would include SuSE, Mandrake, Red Hat, and one wh

Trouble is:
gentoo: barfs on the compile - I will report it to someone who cares.
suse: is version ardour-cvs20020816-44.i586.rpm (in suse 8.1). For
software that is only provided from cvs because the author does not want
