Interestingly enough, I came across this utility while trying to install
MPlayer. It's urpmi, Mandrake's atp-get (altho not as powerful, I know).

Nah, there's nothing wrong with mplayer, and it works better than xine in my
experience. If you're having trouble with the precompiled binaries, try
downloading and compiling from source, worked fine for me :-)
(almost straight off from memory ;-)

1. I cannot get SANE to talk to my Epson Perfection 1260 USB
scanner. It can be seen easily by USB Devices, I have trouble
installing the appropriate backend...
