As part of any talk I would be happy to do a short show & tell about my bash
backup script.
It uses bash to wrap MySql dump, tar mkisofs & cdrecord to write a backup cd.
As an incidental question does anyone know of some code I can use to test if
there is a blank cd in the proper drive?
Cheers
Hi,
and then there is the comment:
There are two times to test your backup:
a)before disaster
b)after disaster

Answer yourself these questions:
* How much data volume to back up?
* How often?
* What's your budget?
* What's your loss if you lose the data, expressed in dollars?
This gives you most of your own answer.

Backup strategy!
Rob
Well, I've finished my backup of it. I started at about two pm yesterday.
I had shoved it in the freezer for about twelve hours beforehand, just to make
sure. Then I got it out and froze my fingers trying to get it into the PC - I
hadn't considered that - I just did not think about it! ;)

I am getting around a thousand spam messages a day.
How/why do i get this much spam?
Ans:
too many years of doing open source stuff.
my email address appears on the web (as counted by google)
970 times.
your email address only appears a couple of times.

I have no idea how people manage to get that much spam that they need
anti-spam software. ;) With my 6 addresses I get about one message per
day. And yes I do use most of those addresses.

the same sort of forensics tools. I'm wondering about rescue liveCDs for
systems needing electronic ER.

If you can why not link a PC to the pc/lappie that's got the dead drive in it.
