I have had wireless networking work ok using UnitedLinux "Ok"
being that I'm not happy with everything but I'm generally satisfied
that it works.
The GUI setup tool at least works now with wireless settings AFTER
setting up the NIC.
What kind of NIC are you using? Do you use WEP? Are you
David,
I get the beep... beep. I am using a WAP on it's own IP in infra-
structure (managed) mode and the SuSE 8.1 setup GUI asks for a key.
The WAP uses 128 bit WEP key because I am using a mixed wired/wireless
home lan. This is what I symlinked: ln -s /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth-pcmcia

David,
Thanks for the info. What did not come out clearly is that SuSE8.1 automa-
gically does this for you, but it didn't work. The only way to get the
eth-pcmcia card recognized as wlan was to symlink it. I tried putting
the info in wireless.opts, no go. It keeps telling me it cannot find

Guys,
Can we get back on subject here. I started this thread asking about
help/experience with the built-in wireless setup under SuSE 8.1 and
it has digressed to cups vs lprng.
Could people please offer suggestions about wireless. Again, I have
got the card recognized, symlinked to eth-pcmcia-0,

Yeah, seems a common complaint now is even the latest, greatest from
Redhack and
Mondain are reporting in with the same errors. Seems to be related to
the new stuff
being compiled with GCC 3.2 ??? I also got the source for xterm and
LPRng and
the tools, compiled from source. Things still are we

That just tells me how to set up pcmcia, which I _don't_ have a problem
with. As I said, the card is recognized, installs the proper modules, but
just doesn't get an interface. I have symlinked to the yast created eth1
for the wireless and have gotten a little further along, but still no
cigar.

I dunno Ben. I installed UnitedLinux Beta, downloaded yesterday, and it looks like a
clone of SUSE 8.x. It uses yast to install and it hung on
every machine @ 64% of booting for the first time.
YMMV,

I duuno, Keith. I am having MOJO problems with SuSe 8.1 as well. It
seems it has borken
just about EVERTHING.
Example: developeing in AppGen I use an xterm sesssion (Hey no GUI for
me !!!). 50% of the time
when exiting Appgen and going BACK to the xterm, xterm goes into a

you may want to consult the linux-sxs articles first. search for "pcmcia"

Hello All
Has anyone gotten a simple Linksys WPC11 card to work 'out of the box' in
SuSE 8.1 using the standard setup unde yast2 lan? I installed SuSE 8.1
(fresh) on my laptop which ran (sometimes intermittently) a wireless
Linksys WPC11 card under 8.0 with tweaking manually. 8.1 comes with a
