Do you still reference the CORE.CSS or do you completely remove it from the
tag? You should put your custom CSS after the CORE.CSS.
eg
Something like that.
This way you will not remove the needed CSS classes from CORE.CSS. You can also
override OOTB CSS class names in your custom CSS
this is to make CORE.JS available on Edit mode (ie. When
admin edits the page). You can do some smarts there using EditModePanel.

What if you have a base page layout class or master page, eg. MyBasePageLayout,
MyBaseMasterPage.
Then you override the Render method. On overriding it you look for the text
"~siteCollection/" then you replace that with the actual URL?

Will modifying system content types be very risky (may be overridden by service
pack upgrades, etc)?
I personally will create my own base content type that inherits from Item and I
can do whatever I want with my base content type.

I know that command but the thing is it will be overridden again by STSDEV when
you do the build.
That's fine I managed to download the source code of STSDEV and modify it

Isn't it returning SPFieldMultiChoiceValue object? It's a collection so you
should be able to do foreach on that object and it wil return the selected
