I use EarthNC ($9.99) and Navimatics Charts&Tides ($24.99) on the
iPhone/iPad both include charts. I use GPSNavX ($49.99) on the Mac,
they have an iPhone/iPad app but I have not used it yet.

On Angel Louise we have been using apps for a couple years, first
those for the iPhone/iPod Touch, now those specially dedicated for the
iPad specifically.
Those that we used for the first two years were:
NAVIONICS: US EAST
NAVIONICS: CARIBBEAN
(those both cost $19.95 back then
Ed,
Navionics still sells the iPad app for those locations, it is now called
Charts&Tides+ and it is $24.99 for the iPad and iPhone, one license
works on both if you have both devices.

We used Navionics Caribbean on a Droid X all the way from Key West to the
Rio Dulce and it served as a great backup for the chartplotter. For an app,
it was expensive ($30.00 IIRC) but, for a "chartplotter: if was super
cheap. As we went south, we reached a point around Belize where i
Internet connection or a 3G cell connection if you have the hardware to
support that capability.
