I have setup LTSP and have been using GDM as display manager. X loads fine on boot, however, 9 times out of 10 GDM startup fails on the LTSP clients. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace fixes the problem every time as GDM starts up successfully at that point. Any ideas as to why this would be occurring?

That is correct. I was unable to make it function in previous tests. Of course that was almost a year ago, so they may have gotten around that issue. It had something to do with accessing the filesystem layer directly with some construct that NFS does not support that an actual block device
