Hi all folks,
I finally complete the setup of a LTSP server through a hard way. Now the
workstation can connect with the Terminal Server. But I still have some
problems remained unsolved as follows:
OS: RH7.3
Connection : via a crossover cable (this is only an experiment)

Hi All,
Good day!!!
Is it possible to run 2 or more LTSP servers to support 90 workstations on a
sigle network running on the same subnet. Let's say I have two LTSP servers
and I run 45 terminals on each server. Since you define the mac-address of
the LAN card of the terminal on you dhcp server,
I have setup LTSP and have been using GDM as display manager. X loads
fine on boot, however, 9 times out of 10 GDM startup fails on the LTSP
clients. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace fixes the problem every time as GDM starts
up successfully at that point. Any ideas as to why this would be
occurring?

Since I promised a while ago to do so, here you are with the outline of the
operations I performed on a Debian 2.2 Potato acting as a LTSP server to set
up Network Information Service in order to be able to execute applications
locally on the diskless workstations.

I'm glad your installation works as advertised, but unfortunately not
everyone has a clean-cut configuration.
There are many networks with existing DHCP servers that might b

Newbie: I need help installing to Mandrake 8.2
I've downloaded the RPMs for _core, _kernel, _x_core, _x_fonts and even _x336_s3(just
in case).
Attempting to follow the instructions to a tee, I ran,
# rpm -ivh ltsp_core-3.0.5-0.i386.rpm

Is there any type of
HOWTO or configuration guide that covers the setup of applications for each
workstation.
I've been trying to
setup a model user, that can be copied to each new student user that is created.
I'm trying to avoid each student specifying their own KDE setti

Forget all previus messages on this thread. I got the same error every
time because i was modifying a dhcpd.conf back-up file. Sorry.
Now that i modified the right dhcpd.conf file, workstation just don't
download the kernel.
Take a look at my dhcpd.conf.
The error message shown is:

Hmm, interesting.
You say that you are using the default kernel that
comes with ltsp_core-3.0.5-i386.tgz.
The interesting part is there is NO kernel included with
the ltsp_core package.

That is correct. I was unable to make it function in previous tests.
Of course that was almost a year ago, so they may have gotten around
that issue. It had something to do with accessing the filesystem layer
directly with some construct that NFS does not support that an actual
block device

Alex,
Which LTSP kernel are you using ?
I added the sis900 driver when I build the vmlinuz-2.4.18-ltsp-1
kernel that is in the ltsp_kernel-3.0.4 package. I'm guessing
that you are using an older LTSP kernel.

Ok. It worked! But now, while running linuxrc, I get the message:

So what if it's /dev/none, it still wants to see it there. Use /dev/ttyS0 (or

If it isn't working for you, then you are doing something
else wrong.
