What are the benefits of setting up a font server over, well, not
setting one up?

Seems like it should work:
Will LTSP work if served up from an AIX server?
Seems like all that's required is dhcpd from ISC
and native services to provide TFTP, NFS, XDM,
and X11.
Is anybody doing this?

Good evening list,
We currently use a combination of W2K terminal servers
for most professional staff and LTSP servers for students and
some staff. When I add users to the W2K server I use a default
password that must be changed when the user initially logs-in.
I've not found how to set thi

What you want is an X terminal emulator for Windows. There are many
commercial ones available, and some free ones.
One of the free options is cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/). It includes
XFree86, which gives you the X terminal emulator function you want. I
use it and give it a thu

Yes in the USA, unfortunatly I didn't find a distributer in Germany :-(.
Does anybody know one in Germany?
But nevertheless the jammin125 was in only one week in Germany :-)

Dieter,
Sorry, so far I haven't experimented with LTSP sound, but apparently
you managed to get hold of a Jammin125 in Germany. Where did you buy
it? In the USA?

Unless I'm mistaken, LTSP does use init
Hello LTSP-ers,
I've put together a little package that will let you install some
wrapper scripts, some icons and some menu entries for KDE so that
all users on a machine will get the OpenOffice.org apps without
having to run the setup first. The oowriter, oocalc etc show up in
the start-menu
I would never run LTSP over the public internet - too many bad guys out
there just waiting to zap your server. LTSP is for running within a
trusted community.
I find it much more convincing to demo LTSP off a floppy. So you show
someone a PC booting Windoze from its hard drive, yawn, yawn, eventu
Hi
I want to set up a Linux terminal server, who users can connect to from
windows clients.I want similar functionality as when you are a client to
a w2k server trough rdesktop. You should not need to load a kernel to
your workstation. I hope it will work over Internet.
Do i need to install all?/
John,
i think you overstate the difficulty and understate the importance
of secure connect. the very idea of clear text passwords floating on the
network gives me nightmares.
the simple and somewhat secure solution would be to add encryption
capability to the downloaded kernel. the
There's been much discussion on this list about using secure connections
- it's on a good few people's wishlists, but the concensus is it's
non-trivial to implement and certainly isn't available 'out of the box'
from LTSP yet. Remember that 'trusted user community' bit.

In Netstation project , thin clients boot about RAMDISK INITRD only.
Why LTSP do not take this feature???
A real thin client not need a FS and not run local app.
This feature is better or no? Its more effective.

Dieter,
You'll need the ltsp_sound-3.0.1 package.
You'll also need the ltsp_kernel-3.0.5 package, which contains
the sound modules that work for the cx5530 chipset.
The settings you need in the lts.conf file are:
SOUND= Y
SOUND_DAEMON = nasd
SMODULE_01
Hallo,
today arrived the first jammin125 in our school - really nice and it works
without problems :-)
Now I want to test the sound -> what I've got to write in the lts.conf and
what I've got to install at the server in addition to the sound.rpm?
Kind regards
Dieter

James,
The NFS-root option is called 'CONFIG_ROOT_NFS',
and it's still right where it belongs.
under 'File Systems' go to 'Network File Systems', Then, the
4th item down is 'Root file system on NFS'
BUT, you first have to enable 'IP: kernel-level configuration support'
in the 'Network options'

Hi
I have to build a kernel for use with an Old LTSP version. Done this
before - its easy.
So I got a fresh 2.2.22 but I cannot find the CONFIG_NFS_ROOT options.
It IS in the source, but I can't config it.
I thought I'd get an old kernel and look at the .config. They've all
disappeared from sou
