Namibia's SchoolNet project decided to stick with

though Microsoft was offering some "donations."
A good quick look at the obvious benefits of an

Hi,
I have made sure my server identifier is the ip address. The

Have you made sure the erver identifier entry in the dhpd.conf file is
an ip address and not a name? ie

You should consider using OpenOffice.org 1.0.1 rather than
StarOffice 5.2. There are any number of improvements. And it's
open source. It will install once on the server, then have
OpenOffice.org1.01 - no question. Download it / get a distro which
includes it / get it from a free CD on a computer magazine - buy it from
a few dollars from a cheap CD shop.

I have the same problem under RH 7.3 - I don't want the GUI on the
server, but I do want it on the clients.
The trick is to set your server to runlevel 5, but use gdmconfig to stop
X running locally. Choose the 'Expert' options tab, then select 'X-server
setup', select the '0 /usr/sbin/X11/X' ent
Grab OpenOffice.org1.01 from http://www.openoffice.org - there's a new
install script to make things easy. I do a network install into
/opt/OpenOffice.org and then a local user install for each user...

It struck one of the Skolelinux guys that hey, why is there no

before I set out on the quest for the perfect lts.conf, has anyone

I am not sure anyone understood your question but here
goes:
run level 3 is not for X Server, You should be getting
a root prompt if your ltsp conf is set for that.
run level 5 is the one you want to get the X server to
start.
Hoe that helps.

Our installation also uses SuSE server, LTSP-3.0, and VIA-ITX-based clients.
I used the etherboot approach for booting with PXE, where
PXE -> etherboot -> load kernel (DHCP, TFTP, etc.).
To get this working I did not use the pxestuff package.

I believe that I would need a better definition of "support" to answer

If by support you mean user support (i.e. "How do I start a new

I'm not familiar with the variable, but I assume that it needs to be
