To have a machine with HD, with a operating system installed (Win2k in

where one could choose to boot win2k or PXE/Etherboot the machine.

You are getting that error, because you are trying to boot an Etherboot
kernel with a PXE bootrom.
PXE can only load things less than 32kb in size, so with PXE, you need
to load a 2nd stage bootloader first. The bootloader will then turn
around and load the kernel.

I'm doing some testing using VMWare and I'd like to have the VMWare
instance network boot. When I try a network boot, I get the following
error:
PXE-E79: NBP is too big to fit in free base memory
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.
The VMWare NIC is identified (in Win2K) as:
AMD PCNET Family PCI Et
If I set the "NoAccel" flag in X then everything worked fine. And it seems to
have the same speed for the tasks I tested (= where it is needed). Yes, that
does make me feel silly.
