If you use the --fat-client option when you build the image, it should
include all the applications that are installed on the server without you
have to worry about it.
Checkout the command ltsp-build-client --extra-help as well.

What you're looking for is called "remote apps" and it's the opposite of
"local apps".
You basically set REMOTE_APPS=True in lts.con

the problem with vlc and in general with LOCAL_APPS_MENU_ITEMS = vlc
is solved.
the problem was that i log in in the thin client with the same user who is on
the server.
was enough to create a new user and login from thin clients
and everything 'went ok.

If you want to run a fat client, the clients should have at least 1GB
You are going to have to install all the software on the client, except
that one large one which you install on the server.
You will also have to install the window manager on the client. Haven't
done that , sounds like fun.
Hope you clients have at least 1GB memory.
