LTSP 2.09pre4 is very stable. The only reason we haven't made it a
production
release yet is because I am still working on the documentation, and I don't
want to release it until that is done.

thanks for the advice but is LTSP 2.09pre4 stable
enough? will it crash often. coz the setup is at an
engineering college and it will be problematic for me
if the server crashes often while the students are
practicing their normal unix commands.

The 2.2.18 kernel doesn't support the DFE538tx.
You can either grab the latest rtl8139 driver from Donald Becker's web site
at http://www.scyld.com,
or you could upgrade to LTSP 2.09pre4, which uses the 2.4.9 kernel which
does
support that card.

hello all,
my client has dlink 538tx+ nw card. i am using the
vmlinuz.rtl8139 kernel.
here are the error messages that i see on my client :
RAM disk driver initialised : 16 RAM disks of 1024k
size
IP-Config : No Network devices available
Root-NFS : No NFS server available, giving up.
VFS : Una
