I played with xvidtune and although there was a lot of play in the
settings, and I was able to ameliorate the bad size/fit of the display,
it didn't affect the ghosting/flickering thing. Also I tried another
identical IBM desktop --same trio chipset same memory-- and it did the
same thing. The
Flickering? Could it be that your modelines aren't what they should
be?

S3? No problem! I am using them at 800x600 for about 3 years now.
However, most of the older S3 models simply don't have room for more
than 1 Mb of on-board RAM and usually came with only 512 Mb.

Yep.
Adding swap via NFS won't help the video at all. it's only

Hello, I have just made my first experimental install of LTSP. The
server is Mandrake 9.0 and I used rpms from sourceforge as they seemed
to install OK. The etherboot nic is a tulip lne100 from diskless

If it works at 800x600 with 256 colors under windows, it should work
under linux. You just need the right xserver and probably a modeline.
A quick search on google leads me to believe that there may be a vga
wonder server. You might try seaching around and see what you come up

I would be happy with 640 x 480 with 256 colors. When I run
the machine with just Windows 95, I have it set at 800 x 600 with 256
colors. Windows 95 identifies the video card as a ATI VGA
Wonder.
Thanks!

I'm sure somebody on the list can give you exact numbers, but I can tell you
that you're not going to get very many colors or very high resolution with
only 512k of video memory. I have some isa cards with 1 meg of memory on
them, and I believe the best I can do is 800x600 with 256 colors. So I
I have been trying to get LTSP to work with the Old IBM Model
35. (Our District has about 200 of these in a warehouse).
The workstation has a VGA Charger Video Card with 512k
Memory(ISA). I have only been able to get the machine to work with XSERVER
= XF86_SVGA and with X_COLOR_DEPTH = 8.
