I am using LTSP 3.0. on Mandrake and I encountered the same problem. It automatically
uses xdm as the
display manager. I am not sure if this is ok for LTSP, but in my simple setup my
workstation was able to use
KDE and have not experienced any problems yet. This is just from my own ex

Why not ?
Does it not offer KDE as a choice, or do you get an error ?
Have you modified /etc/X11/prefdm to force GDM or XDM ?
Have you modified /etc/sysconfig/desktop ?
What Distro/Version of linux are you using ?
