For Networking Windows machines, that are on the same subnet, check to
see if the workgroup names are the same. You can find this out by going
into you system properties and going into the network identification
tab. Here it will show you the name of the workgroups.

Can you ping between machines? Or do you mean you can't see them in the
'Network Neighborhood'? Check out each system's IP and try pinging if you
haven't yet. Just type in 'ipconfig /all' at the cmd line to view the IP.
If you can do that and hit each other then it definitely may be what Warren
I think warren's answer will fix the problem, but I just thought I'd add
that you
probably can access the machines by doing \\ipaddress instead of

I'm running redhat 7.3, with mostly default workstation settings. when I run
ps -e, there are a bunch of redundant (?) processes, about 8 nfsd, 15 kdeinit,
10 httpd, 6 mingetty. This seems screwy to me, do any of these sound reasonable,
or is something weird happening to make my daemons multiply?
yup, Warren's solution worked...but I never thought of accessing the machines
through the IP...I think I'll try it. Thanks to all that helped!

That's normal, keeps the processes from having to spawn another seed when
needed. You can trim them down if you want to but there's really no need.

Hi Rodney,
Make sure that 'Client for Microsoft Networking' is installed and bound to the
TCP/IP
protocol (assuming you want them to see each other via TCP/IP) This is the most
frequent problem that I have seen with 2000 on an existing network.

thaks for the tip, I'll try RH 7.3. I think I can get it from the Luau
mirror.
How do I get to the local mirror to download redhat?

Warren, thanks for responding. Yes, I did read the review, in fact
several times, although some of it was over my head. Despite the review
and several google postings about sound, I was stubborn enough to
install Mdk 8.2, which works fine except for sound. So I will download
Rh7.3 if I can get
Scott, thanks for the tip. I tried to click on the address you gave
(ftp.vide1.ics.hawaii.edu) but nothing happened. Then I tried entering
it in new location, still nothing. Am I missing something?

Plus, make sure that at least one of the machines is running the Computer
Browser Service. They should be turned on by default on Win2Ks. Only if
you have SMB services (e.g. File/Print sharing) running, you will see
another computer listed under the Network Places.
Of course all of these wouldn'
But upon first install RH7.3 my sound works great.
Just have to adjust sound settings and bang full surround
sound.
