Warren, thanks. That is a terrific tip. I will study the Grub docs,
sounds like a life saver. I was going to install tonight, but it is
getting late and it gets me so excited I cannot sleep. Anyway I ran into
an interesting dilemma: I reset the bios to boot from CDRom, keeps
resetting itself fo

Thanks Warren and Wilson for the tips, especially on Grub. I am not sure
how to figure out which partition WinXP is on; I loaded it first
(actually came loaded) so I guess it is the first partition, i.e.
/dev/hda1 in Linuxspeak. So I will try using your edits just as you
wrote them. Hmm, would
Finally I am back to the island, been away for over a month at Germany, and I
got over 900 un-read mails from this list, didn't expect the traffice to be
this heavy but it's all good. I poke around at Siemens' network, only found

To Al and everyone else,
Could you please observe list etiquette and trim the quoted portion of
e-mail replies to the list to a bare minimum? It makes it much easier to
read the list if everyone does so, as well as make your posts easier to

I know I may seem demanding sometime, but please

Alvin- Just use GRUB and manually edit the grub.conf file so that you can
select WinXP in the GRUB menu. GRUB is much much better then LILO!
You'll have to edit either the /boot/grub/menu.lst or /boot/grub/grub.conf
file. Just edit whichever one you find. If w2k is on partition /dev/hda1,

Sorry, I forgot to ask. On Mdk 8.2, various people suggested installing
in expert mode so that the boot option NOBIOSPNP could be loaded. Is
this the way to go with RH 7.3? Do you have to be in expert mode
(gasp,choke) to pass that? Thanks

Thanks Dan and Warren and others for the help. I did find the mirror,
downloaded the images and the sums checked out, now burning. But based
on myexperience yesterday of trying an old copy of 7.2 I am kind of
worried. Not very intuitive, especially if you are used to Mdk. If I did

I have the network.img on the floppy, but the address is asked for on
two lines on the network.img setup, not like the one line I was told to
use to conect to videl.
Well, I haven't installed mandrake in a while, but if it's like Red Hat,
you would put on the first line
videl.ics.hawaii.edu
Help!
Does anyone know the correct way to address the videl ftp server to load
mandrake 9 using network.img?
I have the network.img on the floppy, but the address is asked for on
two lines on the network.img setup, not like the one line I was told to
use to conect to videl.
Thanks,
