One of the killer advantages of Linux, in addition to multi-locale user

single CD.
After Knoppix, we now have another independent Linux demo CD called
Yoper. If anyone is interested in the newest KDE but afraid to mess

Short answer:
You can allow FTP connections only from 127.0.0.1 because that is where
they will appear to come from if

You can block FTP at the firewall and allow FTP only from
localhost. I am guessing this is what Dreamweaver has in mind,
because sftp is more limited

Hi!
Thanks for the replies folks. Unfortunately sftp isn't an option.
I've managed to set up localhost connection when dreamweaver and server
are both the same machine. But would like to develop using PHP/MySQL on
a 'live' remote server. Dreamweaver supports the connection internally

Wow...OK. Welp I'll chuck wu-ftpd out (dang, just got the RPMS and
installed it) and get proftpd and give that a shot.
Really appreciate the info and the explanation. It all makes sense, but
wrapping my head around tunnels gives me headaches :P
I'll let ya'll know how it goes

I am asking this question, because you apparently don't really know the

Yes,
Aloha,
Why not use SCP, that is the built in file transfer utility of SSH. It
seems that if dreamweaver is using SSH to transfer files they should have
an interface for SCP like most GUI SSH tools.
FTP is bad

Yes I agree...but the point that you're missing is that with FTP,
DreamWeaver does a check-in/out facilty and auto synchronizationthe
facility is spiffy enough that many users don't even want to do something as

Hmm... I use the Appgate Mindterm SSH client (http://www.sandust.org/ssh/)
and it has a great SCP GUI that allows me to browse directories and select
multiple files, etc. I don't know exactly how they do it, but it is only
using SSH and SCP. It seems it would be easy to add functionality to

Heh,
OK, well artsy types like it because it fits the culture they've
accustomed themselves to. Most of them don't want to do anything technical
or have a desire to learn anything they deem 'technical'. (not all Mac

Hi All,
I'm kinda stumped, I still can't seem to connect via Dreamweaver (DMX).
DMX is set up to use passive FTP, and when I click on the 'test' button in
DMX, plink fires up with it's session, and I can log in with my username
and password. After logging in and minimizing the plink window, it
