I use CF and SD cards on a Linux based PDA (Sharp Zaurus). The CF cards are
formated as FAT for installing upgraded kernels and software packages, and
for storing large files. The SD cards are formated as EXT2 in order to

Any work to be done at McKinley (hardware/software installs)? Should we
show up early to help out?
Once a month, The Hawaii Open Source Education Foundation has an open

I have seen numbers thrown around of how much buggy software costs end
users. But one number I have never seen is how much copyright protection
schemes costs end users? For example, you legally buy some commercial
software package and the key number is ether lost, stolen, or is burned on a
Remember SCO's invocation of RIAA?
Similar to analogous efforts underway in the music industry, we are
prepared to take all actions necessary to stop the ongoing violation of our
intellectual property or other rights.

Here are some comments from another list in regards to replacing ESRI GIS

I did a search for 'computer linux' at the Sams Club site. Found these
software specs for a $280 computer. I would think it's a full blown Linux
installation. It includes OpenOffice, Mozilla, GIMP, and several other

that entails 'certification'. We are about education, leave the

I'm finding it would be useful to have some broshures with general
information about HOSEF, and some business cards with contact person
information and the HOSEF url.
One thing we should do before making broshures or business cards would be to
finalize the logo and HOSEF mission statement. I
Specifically regarding embedded Linux systems, we could get
together and discuss it, but given a target audience of public

effectively applied to old hardware.
I put forth the idea of embedded linux on old computers as a random

Aloha!
I'm new to Linux and this list, so I thought I'd post some ideas and see
how they fit into the current efforts made by members, particularly the
HOSEF initiative.
For some time I have thought that it would be great for schools, or a
non-profit organization, to aquire donated PCs,
