Kobayashi is probably the best if not the only Hawaii "politician" to
understand the value of Linux and other OpenSource stuff.
I am sure everyone knows this: In Hawaii, a city council seat is
actually more powerful than a state
I'd really like to believe that prominent people _choose_ Linux and
Apache, but often it is just because their virtual host provider uses
it.

No one would have thought Ed Case would have come so close. One of the
reasons for his (near) success? His web page and server are running on
Linux.
