Lubuntu prerelease live
gparted is disabled
I booted off the CD
and wanted to rename and resize partitions
so that I can install another OS
but those options are greyed out
as if it wanted a master password
but there's nowhere to enter any password.

From the live install disk I clicked Install,
then resized the last Lubuntu partition to half
so that theres free space for another more uptodate Lubuntu
(hoping the UK keyboard will work)
But it says:
[No root file system is defined
Please correct this from the partitioning menu]

Since last week the indicators are not longer working. Especially the
nw-applet is not visible.

I wonder did you remove them in panel setting or try to add those back by
right clicking on the panel and going to panel settings?
Worst case scenario is you can use network settings through the menu
prefrences network connections.
