Windows XP replacement games: Penguin Spider?

2014-05-07 Thread John Hupp
Hi, all. I'm honing my Windows XP replacement recipe and am well aware that lots of people love those simple games that have traditionally been included with Windows. I see that Lubuntu 13.10 included the Penguin Spider suite, which installed Penguin Canfield, Freecell, Golf, Mastermind,

Play DVD's

2014-05-07 Thread John Hupp
Playing DVD's is on my functionality checklist, and when I insert one under 14.04, all I get is a prompt to open the DVD in the file manager. I would like it to automatically open in Gnome MPlayer (or VLC, if that is a better choice for DVD's) and either start playing the movie or else give

14.04 seems subject to bug 1046563 with update-manager/notifier

2014-05-07 Thread John Hupp
I don't find the issue in the Lubuntu or Ubuntu 14.04 Release Notes, but it seems like 14.04 is subject to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1046563, reported for 12.04, in which automatic updating fails. I was noticing that I wasn't being prompted to install

Hi, 14.04 is released since a few days, and according to the activity on this mailing list and the Facebook page, it seems to have a bit of success :-) That's nice to see :-) I didn't had the time to personally thanks all people involved in this release. It's not only this one, but all the

All: I attempted to install Lubuntu 14.04 on two more of my test machines, and could not do it in both cases. In the first machine, the live CD booted, but there was nothing in the task-bar indicating a wireless network was present, though it booted with a wireless dongle plugged-in that

Hey Aere, some quick clarification questions... Did you test this Dongle with Ubuntu Studio 14.04 (or one of the other respins?) Did you say that those dongles worked on *some* machines with 14.04 but not the other machines? If that is the case... my initial guess is it could possibly be the USB.
