hi list,
after various 12.04, 16.04, and now 16.10, i am getting a consistent failure
on reboot after install. if i go bak & reinstall, comes up fine, but
reboot after good install so far gives no joy.
on reboot, it puts out the fsck,
/dev/sda1;clean, 1229900/420024 files 767048/171000 blocks

Hi Jack,
When you boot up, hold your Shift key down to get your GRUB menu.
Select: Advanced Options for Ubuntu
Select: Ubuntu, with Linux VERSION (recovery mode)
When you boot up:
Select: root
It should bring you to a root console.

To help further diagnose, what you are waiting for is the startup of
lightdm.
I can't provide any further help from there as I don't know.

"live" DVD or USB of whatever system that are then trying to install? Or,
you are just "installing"?? Usually I test out the system . . . and if you
can get to a GUI before installing it, that might be indicative o

if you are booting to a black screen then it is your graphics card (most
likely).
This is a problem that will require you to research some things but
should likely be able to overcome.
That said, it might be better to wait for a while before trying this
