I just made my first try in A-major. Interesting key in d-minor lute. Well
sounding, but really makes my brain quite confused... The piece is named
Aria W and it is followed by the Double without naming it Double. My

The strings would be tapered only if not ideally prepared ie the strip
cut from the raw gut to produce a uniform cylinder when twisted. Once
again tho' - could very significantly increase the cost of strings
(closer to earlier levels?).

Don't be put off by problems with the top string. The problem really
only relates to the chanterelle and possibly the second (and then more
for some string makes than others), and if you like gut you will like
it even more on your 10 course (particularly for the Meanses and
Basses).

Here's a lovely performance by Hesperion XXI. I was amused to see the
extremes of fret placement on the viols - some pretty much equal
temperament and others (the lirone for example) with very UN-equal
temperament.
Still sounds wonderful, and it would seem that the players are all
