And I'm kind of answering to myself after having browsed further material.
It seems aforementioned LP Kaster is quite a prolific retired artist and
has put a lot of work into making those strings.
And then I found a recording of a Renaissance lute played by youtuber

I think David van Ooijen has probably experimented more than me, but I
bought a couple of pure silk shamisen strings once. It became clear to
me, that without knowing the guage, tension etc. it was kind of a shot
in the dark. They didn't sell them by gauge in the shop I bought them

Dear Luca:
I have tried silk strings by Alexander Raykov on my lute and they are
quite nice. I think the basses are particularly superior to most gut
basses I have tried. I would use them again if I ever got around to
working out the diameters and tension.

What exactly did you like so much about your

Hi, all,
I don't have info for the makers mentioned, but there's a man near me in
Connecticut USA who makes silk strings: Alexander Rakov, [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I've been very happy with them on my Asian instruments (san xian, dan nguyet),
but haven't yet tried them on early European instruments.
Very interested in trying them,
has some years ago and they were great
