[LUTE] String tensions?

Hi, What's the current thinking on string tensions for lutes? Presumably it depends to some extent on the particular lute. Figures I've heard range from 2kg to 3.5 kg per string which is quite a big range. Any views? Thanks, Bill -- To get on or off this list see

Dear baroque lutenists, I'm starting with a new (well, used 1993 Lars Jönsson) 11-course baroque lute, string length 68cm . One of the problems with a new type of lute is the tone production. And what makes it tricky is that the playing technique and string properties are connected in many ways.
