Hi all,
Similar to another thread currently underway, I'd like to find out
some of the important keyboard shortcuts for lyx on OS X (Leopard).
What for example is "insert footnote"? What is "insert citation"? I
would have expected these to be "Command i" for insert and "f" for
footnote or
Right, I've spent about 3 hours trying to sort this out, without
success, so it's time to call for help.
I'm getting the following message when running pdflatex:

encoding. Changing the document encoding to utf8 could hel
It would be great to be able to use chicago style with jurabib, or
similar. Is there any chance of somebody setting this up?
The closest I got was by including the following in the preamble:
\jurabibsetup{titleformat=italic,titleformat=commasep,commabeforerest,ibidem=strict,citefull=first,lookat,ox
Silly question: Are you using Evince? If so, try acroread. I have
found that Evince sometimes gives strange fuzzyness. For what it's
worth, I don't find the same problem with Evince on Gutsy.
Apologies if this is irrelevant.

Thanks for all of these comments. Actually, I was able to resolve the
issue by the inelegant means of changing 2 or 3 Greek words in the
text back to transliterations. This is a temporary measure, but it
makes the document work again. What wasn't clear to me from the
message was that it related to
I have this error, which prevents my document from doing anything. The
same document worked fine with lyx 1.5.1 on Ubuntu 7.04. Now I'm
running Ubuntu 7.10. I wonder if the problem is related to texlive,
and whether there is some package I should add?
Thanks for any pointers,
Declan
Typhoon, I was thinking of a user-friendly way of doing this. I'm not sure
that what you mention is user-friendly. The "user" I am thinking of is the
poor technically challenged one, not the programmer one.
Steve suggested compiling a list of variables. That's an interesting
question. I'm sure I
A related idea, perhaps less controverted, might be a frontend for citation
styles. Those of us who are required by universities to use particular
styles that may differ in one or two details from the readily available
styles could perhaps use a little programme for making such adjustments. It

Hi all,
I've been trying to get a way to insert some greek text into a document.
Having installed the relevant bits from texlive, I tried putting
\usepackage[greek,british]{babel} into the preamble. This changes the whole
document into greek. If I place the ERT \selectlanguage{british} before the
There's an Ubuntu derivative called Linuxmint. For some reason it upgraded
to Lyx 1.4.3 from 1.4.2 some days before ubuntu itself did. In general this
distro appears very solid.

Hi all,
I'm getting this error. Undefined Control Sequence:

The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have

Hi all,
I'm not sure where to send the following (possibly useless) observation. It
relates to the menu layout in lyx 1.4.x. If it's better sent to another
list, which one is that?

Or, if you don't have a middle mouse button, CTRL-SHIFT V. You'll see in the
Edit menu that lyx distinguishes between pasting from lyx and pasting from
external sources.

I'm using pybliographic to manage bibliography. Some titles I have quote
book titles, and those words should be italicised. Is there any way to
italicise these words either manually, or to mark those words as a book
title (in such a way that jurabib might be coaxed to put them in italics)?
Thanks
Hi all,
I've been to the binaries page linked from the lyx.org page, but I can't
quite understand if the rpms for lyx 1.4.1 there work on Suse 10.1. Do
they?
Thanks,
Declan
Regarding lyx pipes and all the rest is there any easier way to use
\footcite than via ERT? Pybliographer doesn't distinguish \cite from
\footcite. Do any bibtex frontends?
Thanks,
Declan
On the Ubuntu version:
Any simple way to make this work on Dapper?
It'd be great in fact if there was either a klik version of lyx (which would
be pretty gigantic, but it'd be very nice), or if there could be additional
lyx repositories for ubuntu (or debian), as they have for scribus, so that

Hi all,
I'm not getting any hyphenation at all. The language is set to English, and
I've tried going from aspell to ispell, and to British etc. But to no
avail.
So, I started another document for the sole purposes of testing, and filled
it with some nonsense. Only default options: the same proble
Hi all,
Could anyone offer me a brief introduction to hyphenation in lyx. In
practice, I'm getting un-hyphenated documents, and I'm trying to understand
why. Are the rules of hyphenation based on some package that I haven't
invoked? Where do I go to understand what's wrong?
I don't see anything of
Thanks for these suggestions. I'm looking forward to trying them out, as
soon as I can.
Oh, and I reverted to Kubuntu on the laptop, so I now have beamer available

Thanks again,

Hi all,
I'm almost entirely illiterate in matters latex.
For example, I don't even know how to install beamer for lyx on Suse 10.0.
That said, I would be delighted to reduce this ignorance. I'm looking for
easy instructions on an easy task (I suppose, and hope that it is an easy
task).
I've been
I myself have recently suspended use of lyx, after at least 3 months of
daily use.
I was running it on linux, and then when I needed to use Windows on a daily
basis, I managed to get it installed there.
What discouraged me was not the fact that I hadn't acquired the lyx
mentality, but rather that I
I'm not a great lover of the mouse. So, I open the footnote box with

Hi all,
Just beginning to use Lyx. I have it running (version 1.3.4) on
ubuntu linux. I have installed pybliographer, and am now trying to
figure out how to coordinate the various bits and pieces.
Excuse me if I spell it out step by step, so you kind technical people

Thanks Gunter,
I have lyx 1.3.4 running on ubuntu hoary.
Anyway, I'm less concerned about this problem now, since some drew my
attention offlist to the Alt-p 0123 etc. option. That's much quicker
than using the menu anyway. So I'm not so worried about the menu at
the moment.
Now, I'm trying to
Greetings from a would-be Lyx user,
I have a little problem which could stop me using what appears to be a
wonderful program (lyx). It is that the environment menu often does
not work for me.
Just to confirm that: I bring the cursor to above the menu, and
left-click and nothing happens.
In fact,
