I was writing my dissertation under lyx 1.0.3 and updated to 1.1.16.
However a doc file which would compile just ok under the older version
now does not work on 1.1.16 (there appears over 140 erros). The file
has not been changed at all

I am using apalike and natbib packages to format my blibliography and
print an output like
(author, 1991: 21)
I'm using lyx 1.1.3
But all sudenly, without any change onde the lyx file my references
started tobe printed in a number based mode:
(21: 12)
I did not do any change on my lyx fil
if you write n your preamble:
\usepackage{times}
it will deliver a much more readble pdf, but you might get a
'windows-like' font-effect.

i don't know any latex command, but you can do it pretty well under linux
or unix envoirment though 'sort' command, which is part of
text-utilities.
However, I think you'll have to have pure ask data, what is not hard to

I found out that I can't type any kind of accents, and this expression

cross-reference device I cannot get the proper number under my references.

I had serious problems to comiple barracuda as well and I just gave up.
A good alternative (the one I use over here) is a programme called tkbib.
Its rather simpler than barracuda, but it does its job well.

Im trying to convert ordinary *ps files to eps (encapsulated postscript).
Im currently using ps2epsi but there are some problems, since it does

A possible solution is to use layout files from similar document classes.
e. g. If you are using a thesis.cls or sty class you might get book.layout
or report.layout and save it as thesis.layout.

you might use apalike, which formats your citation like: (author, year)
It is just to use apalike style in your bibtex references and type \usepackage
{apalike} in your preamble.
It 's also possible to use AMS styles which format the citations by its initials

You may install one in your latex system and use a copy of the report.layout,
