Hello,
Is there an X-server for windows98 that is free? I can use X-win32 but
would prefer a fully functional server that is not, as a friend of mine
calls it "cripple ware." In part the request is because I want to
respect software developers (I register shareware I continue to use)
Has anyone has an experience running LyX using Mix as x-server ? I have
installed Mix ver 2.0.10 and edited the x-server path in runlyx.bat file.
The dos prompt popped up says something like this:

work real nice, but I can't get it to work. Does
anybody have any instructions on how to use VNC as an x-server for lyx?

Okay, I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but I have had to put my
Linux box in moth balls and have reverted to using windows 98.
(shudder) I can make do without a lot of the conveniences found on
Linux, but Lyx is definately not one of them.

What happens is that every picture in the Lyx document is increasing the
memory allocated in the X server.
Look that:

Yes, the all memory seems released when I close the document.
if I open a LyX file with
a graphic in it or try to insert a picture, it just bombs. Is this a

are: 1) let WindowsNT manage the X windows programs or 2) use a window
manager (e.g. KDE, Gnome, etc.) to manage the X windows programs. When I

Yes. It works quite well, but it shuts down after two hours in the free
trial version.

I can run lyx on VNC on Windows NT without problems.
Just make sure that the VNC server

The Mono switch is not of any use here. The switch is -depth or -visual,
AFAIR.

I've been trying to figure out why LyX core-dumps when I try to run it
with the display on a PC laptop running the MicroImages X-server. The
X-server works with other programs. When I start LyX, it displays,
then crashes with the messages:
