I'm experiencing a strange glitch in clearing notifications on our iPhone 5S
now that I have updated the OS. The normal procedure for clearing the
notifications is not working for me any more as it had been.

I would use down cast. It seems to do more then the podcasts app. I believe
all you do is put in your username and pass in the appropriate fields when
adding the podcast manually.
