A DMG file is a disk image. When you get one of these, you need to open it with
Cmd-o.
You'll then find a file browser window. Interact with this and if it contains a
PKG file, open that with Cmd-o also. If it contains an APP file, just copy it
to your Applications folder.

If it is a .app file then you copy it to the apps folder and it will install.
If it is a ..pkg file run it and it will install and put the app in the apps
folder. In copying the app's file to the app;s folder just know that it is
installed.
