Two things here:
Firstly, when I look at preferences for GB, the general button is selected by
default, and I can't change it. If I click the midi button, or the advanced
button, the focus just stays stuck on the general button.
Secondly, I am finding that the GB app freezes, and I ha
mouse click the buttons instead of VO space. First though, route mouse to VO.

Ok Phil - mouse clicking works in the preferences. Thanks.
I still need confirmation as to if the preinstalled version of GarageBand only
comes with the software piano, and if other instruments need to be downloaded,
and if so, how can I get to where I can instigate the download, and if not, how
Hmm. I successfully use gb with out the troubles you are having. and very
successfully I might add for the jingles I had to produce last year. I can vo
space on the prefs tool bar and r works for me when I'm using my piano key
board. Also the app store or software update will dl the instrument
I use GB primarily for audio recording - not so much software synths. it is
highly accessible for audio recording, although a little weird at first.

At any rate, the l"r" shortcut is a non-essential. The problem mainly is

fun begins, how on earth do I lay down tracks and then mix them on to one.

Actually you can lay down tracks but bouncing them down is in the share and
export menu.

What do you ean by "bouncing them down?" Not a phrase we have here in the UK,
as far as I know -

Sarah and Phil - I'm just not getting anywhere, and it's not from lack of
effort.
The problem is, without any kind of step by step, instruction, I can keep
playing around, trying different things, but even if something does work, I
don't know how to do it again, as I am trying to many different
