This is late, but if you're focused on the progress indicated, you can hit vo
f3 and it'll read the percentage.

This is something I've gone back and forth with apple about myself.
During the leopard/snowleopard betas, I'd reported several times that
these sort of indicators didn't update on their own, and apple would
fix it in the next beta, only to have it break again with the next

I think what they want to know is can they set up a keystroke with out going
back and forth to read it? At least in the main OS? This will not work in the
