Hmm, are you sure you did not update your perl yourself? I have a
Macmini from April 2007 (OS X 10.4.10) and it says:
$ perl -v
This is perl, v5.8.6 built for darwin-thread-multi-2level

Neither one is out yet, but I assume Leopard is pretty well frozen?
